Niigata Beer Brewery was established in 1997 with the concept of "Niigata to the world". The brewery is committed to using Echigo's famous water, and has won a gold medal at the World Beer Cup in the U.S.

The oldest existing beer brand in Japan, it was launched in 1877, the year after Sapporo Beer was founded, by the Kaitakushi Beer Brewery, the predecessor of Sapporo Beer. The "Red Star" on the label is a landmark and also a nickname. It is a heat-treated beer with a strong, thick flavor that has gained deep-rooted popularity.
